Orthopaedic Reconstruction & Trauma

The Orthopaedic Reconstruction & Trauma Program prepares a sales rep to sell to orthopaedic surgeons. In practice, these two specializations may be separate or may be combined, depending on the territory and the manufacturer represented.

Orthopaedic reconstruction (commonly referred to as Ortho Recon) focuses primarily on total joint reconstruction, or arthroplasty, of the hip, knee, and shoulder. These are some of the most common orthopaedic procedures and it is estimated that that this market will grow at a 7.4% CAGR to $22.9 billion by 2017.

Trauma is something of its own specialty, as sales reps must be available on a 24/7 basis. In trauma, there is a bit more emphasis on fracture management, but because the joints are often compromised in trauma cases, reps may be selling similar implants as in Ortho Recon. Trauma is unlike many other specializations in that you are “on call” and are constantly challenged by different events that require you
to be especially resourceful.

Upon successful completion of the Orthopaedic Reconstruction & Trauma Program, students will have developed a comprehensive understanding of: Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA); Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) Revisions; Hip Hemiarthroplasty; Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA); Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) Revisions; Partial Knee Arthroplasty; Shoulder Arthroplasty; Shoulder Hemiarthroplasty; Proximal Humeral Trauma; and Other Long Bone Fractures.
